21st Century Food
Having originally taken over the project from a previous developer several years ago, JaPache Web Solutions has consistently worked on improving and keeping 21st Century Food relevant and up-to-date with the latest web technologies. Our ongoing business relationship with 21st Century Food has helped ensure that every aspect of the website is modern, accessible and streamlines visitors towards the principal purpose of the site: ordering food.
To learn more about the changes we made to this site after we took over the project from the previous developer, select one of the following topics or read our developer's blog about this project.
User Interface and Checkout:
When the site launched in 2008, the previous developer created an inconsistent navigation menu, left dead end pages and offered users a confusing log-in system. As a result, customers were being turned away simply because they couldn’t figure out how to complete their orders.
After improving the navigation menu and designing a new login process and cart system in 2011, customers are now able to make it to the checkout without a hitch and monthly sales have improved by over 125%.
Database and Admin Tools:
Site infrastructure was a nightmare before before JaPache Web Solutions took over. With no means to easily change menus, update products or even keep track of sales, the administrative team at 21st Century Food had to work overtime just to ensure that every order was being processed.
Now, the admin panel follows the standards set by modern content management systems and allows site operators to quickly make changes to every product and menu, generate sales reports and upload data directly from excel spreadsheets to the database.
Traffic and SEO:
Content-wise, the website was initially launched in 2008 without any attention paid to SEO. As a result, traffic was low and Google searches involving strategic keywords was non-existent. In effect, referrals and paid ads were the only sources driving viable traffic to keep the business afloat.
Move over to 2011. After our SEO team revised the entire website, site traffic grew over 300% in under four months and organic search results became the top traffic source.
Responsive Design:
The site was originally launched at a time when smart phones were starting to hit the market and desktops were the web browsers of choice for the average Canadian. While this was fine in 2008, by 2013 it became clear that a growing number of Canadians are using their phones as their primary web browsing, making responsive web design a must-have for websites.
In 2013, we implemente a responsive design allowing customers to easily browse the website and place orders on any device of their choice, from desktop, to tablet to smart phone.
